Fight for Equality: Tennessee lawmakers talk equity, importance of diversity in politics

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Several leading Black Tennessee lawmakers discussed equity, policy-making and the important of diversity in politics in FOX 17 News’ latest Fight for Equality discussion.

House Minority Leader Rep. Karen Camper, Senate Democratic Caucus Chair Sen. Raumesh Akbari, House Democratic Caucus Chair Rep. Vincent Dixie, House Assistant Minority Leader Rep. Harold Love Jr. and Sen. Brenda Gilmore joined FOX 17 News Reporters Justin McFarland and Harriet Wallace for a roundtable discussion.

Lawmakers discussed a variety of topics, including funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities, racial tensions and civil unrest throughout the year, criminal justice and the upcoming legislative session.
